Hungy Mother Lake is a small lake that doesn’t allow gasoline powered engines. The park rents canoes and other boats. Additionally the park offers canoe programs on Hungry Mother Lake and trips to the New River.

  • Canoe tours: Hungry Mother State Park will offer at least two on
weekdays on Hungry Mother Lake. Canoe trips last approximately two
hours, including a shoreline stop for a picnic dinner (participants
bring their own). Instruction and equipment are provided. Sign up after
arriving at park; per person fee or group fee for four people. Minimum
age is three. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Canoe the New: Two canoe trips are offered per week down the unique New
River. Park staff transports participants to the river. Canoe instruction
is available free of charge before setting out. The group stops half-way
through the trip for lunch on a small island. (Participants bring their own
lunch.) There is a fee per person. Please check with the park for specific
    fees, dates and times.

For more information on the canoe trips, call (276) 781-7400. For camping and cabin reservations, please call 1-800-933-7275.
