Cate and I are planning on paddling the Eleven Point September 12-13. I am looking for some suggestions as to where we should go and who we should get to shuttle our canoe. I looked at Richards’ Canoe Rental and 11point Canoe Rental for a possible shuttle and I am thinking about doing the section above Greer Spring. I’m not sure if it has enough water or not. Any information or help would be appreciated. |

I replied to your P.net post. The Eleven Point is one of my favorites and never a “Flow” problem below Greer Spring (below Hwy 19). A good overnight is from the boat ramp at at the campground there at Greer to Riverton. I’ve used Huffstedders at Riverton since the ’80′s and they’ve been nice and prices to shuttle very reasonable. Mary Decker sometimes requires a bit of caution; usually best to run right to right center as there are usually logs and strainers further left. It’s filled in and mellowed a bit since the ’80′s. Run Halls Bay Chute on the left, it is a very fun little rapid, just a little ways above the Riverton takeout. The Eleven Point doesn’t have as many gravel bars as the Current, and they’re smaller. I don’t care too much for the USFS campsites or “Float Camps” as they call them; beware of snakes near those! Your Novacraft is a good boat for that river. Hope that helps. Have a good time! TW |

TW- Thanks for the suggestions and the post. We’re going to follow them to the letter. I’ll write up a trip report when we return. If you end up going down there look for us in a red Prospector with a little black dog.
Hopefully I’ll have it a little better trimmed out with a cooler and gear…hehe

Hehehe, I assure you, I need even more gear than you to “Trim” the canoe when we paddle tandem! Hope to see you in that Prospector! TW |

Hey guys, I’m Barry…. I’ve paddled the 11 point since mid 70′s … love it.. see some more of my pics on American Whitewater.org… got several nice ones posted of 11 Point. Ck out that cave at Whites Creek campground, about 15 minute hike…sensational, my son said “I cant believe they dont charge admission”. Halls Bay is easily the best rapids, in a class by its own for 11 Point. I agree with all that Ozarkpaddler says above. I haven’t personally seen that many snakes, but really aint lookin either ! We love this float and try to make it each year. There has been a neat rope swing about 15 m down on right, we actually camped there this year. Good trout fishing… Also, if you have never seen it, take time to hike down to Greer Spring. Maintained parking and trail, found about 1M from river put in on Alton side of river. Hey, speak of Alton, check out Bonita’s cafe if you are in town and hungry. Unbelievable meal and cheap. We ate there Fri nite as we ran shuttle. The sheriff rolled the window down and recommended it as well. Get the grilled veggies and beef. fantastic. We are from TN, paddle some stuff E TN… check out my pics on Emory River, and Hiwasse River, just a few on Buffalo, TN … Have fun, I am envious, but got a lot going with Fall college schedules, kids, etc… Barry

I can’t wait to hear about the trip. Laura and I went to the art fair and stopped by our favorite restaurant where we said hello to Angela and her family. I hope you are up to another weeknight out at the lake because we have been planning an outing in your absence. |

Hope you had a good time. We put in Friday and paddled from Hwy 19 to Hwy 142 over 3 days. Some of the float camps are nicer than before, with re-furbished privies. Paddled about 16 miles Friday and stayed at Greenbriar. Paddled to a primo gravel bar about 5 miles below Riverton for our Saturday night camp. Lots of eagles, osprey, coyotes, deer, herons, et al, few people. Heres a link to our pics. Looking forward to hearing of your trip! TW |

Halls Bay Chute is the only place on any float stream that we’ve swamped our canoe. It’s a long story on how it happened, but obviously it wasn’t our fault. |
