I was looking for some piece of mind at work, just searching the net for some trip reports to read and bring me back to the river just for a little while, and ran across this site. I really enjoyed reading and checking out the photos, figured I was obligated to join. I had no choice.
I'm from the wilds of Texas and have been canoeing for the last 17 years. I knew it was for me the first time I went out in a buddy's aluminum canoe and haven't gotten out yet. I have my own canoes and kayaks now, and take the family to the river every week, somewhere. Today, Feb 1st, my son and I celebrate the anniversary of his first canoe expedition in 2009, he just turned seven at the time. He took the bow and I took the rest. We hit the lower Pecos River. I figured this was the best time and place to give him a shot at being a "Big Kid". I now know the feelings all you Dad's had, that first canoe trip with just you and the kid. Proud isn't even the word for how I felt. It was our day. I'm there right now.
Anyway, back to work, I hope to get to know all you fellow canoeist more and enjoy all the great reading. See you on the river somewhere.
