Don-
I don't do a whole lot of fishing. If you're in St. Louis you could try Feathercraft or T. Hargrove. These places cater more to fly fishing though.
I found the website (http://www.mikescustomplugs.com/) seems like some pretty cool stuff. Did you try eBay?
Sorry
James
We buy our gear at Amazon, NRS, Altrec or Rock Creek. If you're in St. Louis visit the Alpine Shop.

Don't know about the molds, buy will check with someone who may know.
I do have two Galt boats I have been holding onto for collection purposes that I would be willing to sell. A BJX that I have listed before for 1,200, and a Caper that I would like 1,000 for. Both are in near new condition. I had Mike sign the Caper when I bought it.
Nobody today is building solo boats with the love he obviously put into them....well very few anyway. You can argue all day about the efficiency of his designs, but the graceful lines and workmanship are self evident. Was a bit of a curmudgeon and he could love you or curse you depending on his mood of the day, but the man loved solo canoes like few others I have known. Too bad we lost him.
Asked Charlie Wilson, who knows just about everything about the canoe business, about the Galt plugs and here's his response....
"Most of the plugs and molds are with Brian in Thonatahassa FL, but
Courtney Coddrington called a couple years back and stated he had a
couple plugs with him on the West coast, and WeNonah may have a Egret
plug and molds and a Caper plug."
Hi, I recently purchased a Lotus Dandy and it's a beautifully made canoe. I'm interested in any info or experiences with this boat. Thanks, Jeff
I wish I had time to tell all the Mike Galt stories...I own Caper SN 001...a sweet boat, as well as a Dandy (the early one, not the later edition). Wenonah's Egret mold is hogged and Mike Galt hated it. Whatever...I miss the old curmudgeon.

Mike Galt was my step dad. Not to get too personal but my mom and he split up in 1981. I was just 12 years' old. He was extraordinarily passionate about his canoes. When we lived in Miami, he designed and built the Dandy and the Egret. He made them out of fiberglass. It was revolutionary. He detested aluminum canoes. When we'd be paddling in the Everglades or on the Hillsbourough River, or even earlier than that in Snapper Creek in Miami, he would curse any speed boad or air boat that came by disturbing the peaceful Florida waters. He was a good dad too. I learned a lot. He liked to read stories to me. I was small. He was tough as nails, a Korean War veteran. He knew how to discipline me. Probably in part because of him, I ended up serving 4-years active duty in the Marine Corps. I then became an attorney. He was not a suit-and-tie kind of guy. Characterizations of him as a curmudgeon are probably correct. He loved canoes. He was passionate. If he felt disrespected, you would know it. He was tumultuous, loud, boisterous, but he loved the peaceful, delicate waterways and wilderness.
thanks joe
Joe P:
What a pleasure to stumble upon this website and your brief recollection of life with your step-dad. I hung around with him and you and your Mom a lot in the late '70's. You razzed me for being tall and nick-named me "Tree".
I still have two Dandy's, one of which was one of the original seven numbered and signed by the Great One. I've had to replace the original wood of course. I also still use a paddle he made for me. Within the past week, we've done the Loxahatchee and Turner Rivers with his equipment.
Sorry to now tardily learn of his passing. Hope all's well with you and Millie.

I also am sorry to hear of his passing. I have two Lotus Canoes from the early 80's, both of which I inherited from my mother in 1988. They were neglected for about 6 years and have been stored by me for 9 years. I just started restoring the furniture on mom's "bomb proof" orange Egret. If I remember correctly, it was the boat "on" the sign in about '83 when we made a vacation trip through northern Florida. The other is mom's Dandy which she restored in about '86. I hope to introduce my children to the pleasures of these fine canoes.
I started looking at the damage to my Egret and found that the bow seat mount has separated from the hull of the canoe on one side. I also think I have some significant wood damage on one gunwale. Does anyone have any idea how to reattach the bow seat mount or where I could find new/used gunwales?
