I’m looking at purchasing a new camera as mine is several years old and out dated.  I’m leaning towards a waterproof camera so I don’t have to worry about it when I’m on my canoe.  I think it would be great to simply have the camera wrapped around my wrist and be able to access it quickly as opposed to my current set up of getting it out of a waterproof case and then putting it back afterwards.  I can’t find any reviews from “real” people about waterproof cameras.  Anyone have suggestions on a waterproof camera that you’re currently using while on the water?

Thanks,

ADAM

Adam-
I bought and returned the Fuji WP 33 it was OK but the images were kind of noisy and soft. Of course I was comparing it to Nikon DSLRs. If you’re looking for something cheap and usable I’d get one of these.

If you’re a little more into image quality and want the best I’d get the Canon D10 or the Pentax

I don’t currently own a waterproof digital camera but I have played with all of them in the field. I take my Nikon D90 in a dry box and take it out when I’m somewhere safe or use an old Canon Powershot. It’s currently not the kind of weather where I like to swim so I think I’m going to hold off for the next batch of new waterproof digitals.

If you’re itching to buy one now for a beach vacation or something then go with the Canon or Pentax. Stay away from the Olympus I’ve heard they take crappy photos and have a weird memory card. The Fuji works very well if you’re not super critical and plan on taking mostly outdoor daytime shots and it’s price it right.

As I am rereading what I just typed it doesn’t look like I helped a whole lot. Sorry.

Take a look at the Waterproof Camera tag for some more insights.

Pentax Optio W60 – really impressed with it so far. Good quality shots and shoot HD video (720p). I attach one to my Sea Kayak using a suction  mount – example of the video can be seen here.

Nice review and video. I liked the whole site.

I was actually thinking of adding a 1/4-20 bolt to the deck of my kayak and threading on a small ball mount head for the camera.

Normally, a waterproof digital camera comes with shockproof
and dustproof abilities. These features make it tougher than regular
digital camera. With a rugged body and innovative shock-absorbing
construction, it is designed to withstand a 6.6 feet drop, bump, or
other mishap.

Thanks,
