Post a Trip Report, Start 2 New Topics, Post 10 Replies and Win! So we have a new forum here and there’s not a lot of content. In an effort to get more content I am going to have a drawing August 1, 2009 for a Sawyer Venture Paddle. To enter the drawing simply post information about canoeing in our forum. After you have posted a trip report with photos, started two new topics and made ten posts or replies to any topic you will be automatically entered into the drawing. The winner will be announced August 1, 2009 and be shipped a new Sawer Venture Paddle in their desired length. We will be moderating posts closely so please make a quality contribution to our forum. Short one liner posts such as “awesome river…we go there a lot” will not be tolerated. Posts with a bunch of spam links in them will not be tolerated. If you already have a really cool paddle and don’t want the Sawyer we’ll send you whatever piece of gear you review up to $50.00 value. The Venture is a beautiful multi-laminate paddle that has a wealth of deep, rich hues thanks to the mixture of assorted hardwoods used. The wide tear-drop blade catches a good amount of water. The straight shaft is light weight Ponderosa pine. The blade tip has a guard to protect against constant abrasion and the entire blade has a fiberglass wrap for a longer life. This is a great paddle for a very good price.
The straight-shaft Venture is stable, powerful and balances nicely in the hands. The tip and sides are reinforced with Dynel—a smoother version of Kevlar—and the western red cedar blade is overlaid with fiberglass for durability. The contoured barrel grip is reminiscent of the old “football grip” shape and feels just as good, but doesn’t look like a football stuck on the end of the shaft. You can register for the forum here. |

I was just thinking about what would make a good soundtrack for a trip to get to a lazy river and the songs we used to listen to on cassette tapes driving in the mini van on our way to and from the campsite. My first choice is Rock & Roll by Led Zeppelin, because of the way the opening percussion sounds like a bunch of aluminum cooksets falling off a shelf in the garage. My second choice is Katmandu by Bob Seger, because one of the Scouts who never paid any attention in troop meetings would always ask about one hour into the trip, “Where are we going?” Well Jason, “We’re going to Katmandu.” Queue tape… Does anyone else have a favorite road trip to the put-in site song? You know, the one that must be played loud and often causes your gas peddle foot to push ever harder towards the floorboards. |

That’s a sweet looking paddle. I had considered a Sawyer otter tail, but I don’t find it in their line up any longer. Is my hat in the ring? |

Wow!! Thanks so much for the contest and your efforts in making a great forum. I have lamented that there was not a canoe forum dedicated to this part of the world and now my grumblings have been silenced. I am a lucky dog after all. I look forward to getting my hands on that sweet Sawyer paddle. I promise a review in the not too distant future. Thanks again and Kind regards, Mike |

Dang! When I asked James yesterday when I was getting my new paddle he told me that family members are not eligible to win prizes. Hey, family members love free shwag as much as the next guy. It’s a good thing that paddle is shipped directly or it might go missing from the offices of http://www.adventurecanoe.com if you know what I mean. Enjoy your new paddle Mike! |

Dennis, I have a 3 CD set of river songs I’ve collected over the last few years. I even got some free stickers in trade with some rsft guides on the Chatooga a couple of years ago! Road songs are the greatest! Send me your address at ozarkriver@gmail.com and i’ll mail you a salad CD or 2!! |

Maybe I can talk James into sending you some adventurecanoe stickers for your collection. So far I haven’t been able to score any of those for myself either. ;-) |

It’s raining outside. It’s been raining for two days straight. My replacement radio remote did not show up again in the mail today but there was a bright spot. In fact there were three bright spots that showed up in the mail in the form of the legendary “Harmdog Records,” triple CD collection of rockin’, pickin’, pluckin’, uptown, down home, mobile home next to a swamp, back seat of the car over the river and through the woods to Grandma’s house songs.
Thanks very much Lee. I’m not sure how I can repay the favor but I’ll try to find a way. Oh, and that bonus video you sent of you and… well thanks again. ;-)
